(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2016-08-26

The life and achievements of one of China's greatest military strategists will be honored and commemorated during a cultural tourism festival set to take place in Nanyang from Sept 28.

Zhuge Liang, a military leader and scholar during the Three Kingdoms Period (AD 220–280), spent the majority of his life fighting to unify the country at a time when it was divided.

Often referred to as "Wolong", meaning crouching dragon, Zhuge spent 10 years of his life in Nanyang and is considered one of the five most influential people in the area's history.

The Zhuge Liang Cultural Tourism Festival which marks the anniversary of the scholar's death has been held in Nanyang for many years, and will include activities such as a temple fair, commemoration ceremony and photo exhibition.

The Wuhou Memorial Temple in the Wolonggang tourist attraction was built in Nanyang to worship Zhuge, and is a popular cultural site and scenic spot in the area.

City officials said that the festival is expected to promote Nanyang as an ancient city with profound cultural heritages and attract more visitors from both home and abroad.
