Xichuan county in Henan province has been listed as a national eco-friendly function zone, according to a new list released by the National Development and Reform Commission.
Eco-friendly function zones are areas with rich natural resources that have been managed in such a way to protect the environment, including water and soil conservation and retaining biodiversity.
Located east of the Nanyang Basin and north of Funiu Mountain, Xichuan boasts an exquisite natural environment and plays a vital role in the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
According to the National Development and Reform Commission, a national eco-friendly function zone should give priority to production of eco-friendly products rather than industrialization and urbanization, and will enjoy a national financial allowance and preferential policies for investment.
More regulations will be worked out by the local government to lead Xichuan toward green and sustainable development, a representative from the Henan Province Development and Reform Commission added.
