Nanyang hosts successful reading promotion

After kicking off on Nov 4, the 2016 "reading month" activity held in Nanyang, Henan province saw a successful ending.

Originally initialized by Nanyang Daily in 2009, "reading month" is a public welfare event to encourage the city's residents to do more daily reading.

Various activities were conducted during the month including a book exhibition, a writing competition, a reading report, and a calligraphy and painting exhibition.

The event aroused wide attentions. Local famous writers, including Ling Jiefang (pen-named as Eryuehe), Zhou Tongbin and Qin Jun, recommended list of books to the public and took an active part in the activities.

In order to further promote the event, 10 top readers were evaluated by their reading performance during the event.

"Nanyang is a city with long history and rich cultural heritage. It is the later generation's duty to carry forward the torch of culture," said Mu Weiming, a local top official.
