Li Xuexu, head of Jinguan Forest Farm located in Xichuan county of Nanyang, was honored as one of 2016's top workers on environmental protection, at a conference held in Beijing on Dec 27.
Li has worked for the state-owned forest farm for 16 years, focusing on forest preservation, protecting greenhouses, renovating fire-resistant pathways, as well as maintaining electrical equipment and water systems.
As of 2010, Li had managed to complete government projects aimed at nurturing new forests covering a total area of more than 40,000 mu (2,667 hectares).
Thanks to Li's decades' of hard work, Jinguan has developed into the largest and best-preserved public welfare forest in the area of Hunan, Hubei and Shaanxi province, with 46,000 mu forest cover.
Contributing a 10 percent standing forest stock for the county, the forest farm also won high praise for its contribution towards the high water quality of the Danjiangkou Reservoir.
Another 27 workers and experts in environmental protection from around the country were honored on the list, an activity initiated by the China Green Foundation and Green Times, which aims to promote public environment-friendly awareness.
