Nanyang villages win national honor

A national list of the most livable villages in China was released on Jan 3, including one town and four villages from Nanyang, Henan province.

Erlangping town in Xixia county was honored. The town is home to several popular tourist attractions such as Laojundong cave, Wudaoshitong, and Yinshugou.

The enlisted villages are Dongping village in Xixia, Danyang village in Xichuan, Xuzhai village and Chenzhuang village in Tongbai county.

Dongping village sits at the foot of Funiu Mountain, and has a 96 percent forest coverage. The humid climate of the mountain creates an ideal environment for many species of plants and animals.

Danyang village lies on the shores of Danyang Lake, a part of Danjiangkou Reservoir, and one of the main water sources on the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.

Xuzhai village in Tongbai is home to Bijiashan Park and Zushiding Abbey, which are popular local tourist attractions.

Chenzhuang village is comparable to Jiangnan -- the lower reaches of the Yangtze River that enjoy rich natural resources and beautiful scenery.

The list, the fourth of its kind, was released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, aiming to promote rural areas with well-preserved environments.
