(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2017-01-22

Spring Festival celebrations in Nanyang are set to be bigger and better than ever this year, with more cultural performances and traditions on show to herald the Year of the Rooster.

From Jan 27 to Feb 12, Lining Sports Park will host the New Year celebrations which are expected to attract thousands of visitors.

Drumming, martial arts, dragon and lion dances, will all be held over the two-week period, as well as circus, skiing, and horse riding activities.

Traditions such as paper-cutting, jade-carving and drawing will be demonstrated, on show, and taught, and on stage will be several Yuju, Quju, and Yuetiao opera performances.

On the menu for attendees will be local favorites fermented tofu with pickles, fried rice cakes, and sugar-coated hawthorns on sticks.

It wouldn't be Spring Festival without lanterns. Dotted around the park will be 50 lantern displays, bathing visitors in warm light and another depth of culture.

Shops and stalls will also be set up, selling toys, stationary, paintings, and clothes.
