Thousands attend Nanyang ceremony to honor TCM scholar

One of China's most celebrated physicians from the Han Dynasty (202 BC-AD 220), Zhang Zhongjing, was memorialized at a special ceremony on what would have been his 1,867th birthday. The ceremony was held at his memorial temple in Xixia county, Nanyang, Henan province, on Feb 14.

More than 10,000 members of the public as well as Chinese medical specialists and scholars from home and abroad flocked to the event to pay homage to the great scholar.

Nanyang Zhang Zhongjing Hospital, which is owned by Zhongjing Wanxi Pharmaceutical Group, organized nearly 100 doctors and nurses to participate in the ceremony in a bid to show respect to the medical sage and to carry forward traditional Chinese medical culture.

Chairman of Zhongjing Wanxi Pharmaceutical Group Sun Yaozhi laid a flower basket at the statue of Zhang Zhongjing. To enliven the atmosphere at the ceremony, the group also organized folk activities.

Zhang Zhongjing was one of the most eminent physicians of the Han Dynasty and is credited with making a great contribution to the development of traditional Chinese medicine.
