According to Zhang Bing, head of Kingwing in Nanyang, the main purpose of the flight is to test if the open space in front of the hospital satisfies takeoff and landing conditions. In the near future, the medical helicopter will serve as a key supplement to the emergency ambulances and save lives in places where the latter is unable to reach.

Meanwhile, it will be able to transfer severely ill patients to big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai if treatment is needed there. "As an emergency rescue base, Nanshi Hospital will pitch into the cause," said Lu Yuezhan, a staff member at the hospital.

The helicopter used for the trial flight was an AW11 made in Italy. It is equipped with a breathing machine, defibrillator, aspirator and other medical facilities, so that medical staff can conduct real-time monitoring of conditions during the transfer of the patients, or emergency treatment if necessary.

According to the project head, the air ambulance can also be used for transporting organs, special medical emergency equipment and medicines, which will highly reduce the death rate of severely ill patients or sequelae caused by delay of treatment.
