Xixia retains the title of national civilized county

Xixia county, the only National Civilized County in Nanyang, passed the review to retain the honor for a second consecutive year, according to the list released by the Civilization Office of the Central Communist Party Committee on Nov 14.

National Civilized County, the top honor in urban civilization construction, is awarded to those developing in an all-round manner. While fostering economic growth, the entries are supposed to nurture well-mannered residents and have a high level of civilization.

The assessment is carried out by watching presentations, reviewing materials, investigating online, field trips and overall consideration. A total score of 100 will be given across nine indicators, namely political, legislative, market, cultural, living, human, social and ecological environments.

Another 20 points will be graded based on four indicators related to an area's characteristics and cityscape. Those managing to be awarded with the title face the risk of losing it if there is any violation or misconduct.

In recent years, Xixia has invested 7.5 billion yuan ($ 1.1 billion) in 26 projects related to parking lots, roads, commercial network and underground space to improve urban infrastructure and transform itself into a livable county.
