Drums beat on the Guanhe River in Nanyang's Xichuan county on June 14 as 49 sleek wooden boats sail through during the 1st Henan All-Resident Dragon Boat Race.
The 49 teams were divided into three categories: community, administrative institutions, and enterprises. Each team was limited to 25 people, including one team leader, one coach, one drummer, 10 rowers, and two substitute players.
Over 1,000 people took part and competed in multiple rounds, including preliminaries, semi-finals, and finals, on a 200-meter straight waterway. The competition abided by the latest edition of Dragon Boat Race Rules, which was revised by the China Dragon Boat Association.
The dragon boat race was organized by the Sports Bureau of Henan Province and was locally overseen by the Xichuan government. It is important for Xichuan to mark itself as a strong sports county, as well as stimulating tourism, culture and other industries.
