Nanyang promotes green travel

The 2018 Nanyang Green Travel Awareness Month launched on Sept 1 and Public Transit Awareness Week launched on Sept 17. Both promote the development of public transportation and advocate a green and low-carbon lifestyle.

The awareness week, sponsored by multiple departments of the Nanyang government, aims to promote a green development model and lifestyle, accelerate the construction of a green and low-carbon transport system, and make public transport the most attractive choice for residents.

Green Travel Awareness Month lasts until Sept 30 and Public Transit Awareness Week until Sept 23. Relevant departments will also carry out a series of activities, such as an urban public transport development exhibition that showcases its achievements during the 40 years of Reform and Opening-Up, an experience activity for public transport, and speeches on public transport.

In recent years, Nanyang has taken many steps to develop public transport in the city. To date, 400 new electric buses, three charging stations, and 94 charging piles have been built to meet the needs of electric buses and social vehicles. Fourteen routes have been optimized and 28.4 kilometers of new routes have been added in the city. Query and payment systems have been put into use to provide safe, green, and convenient services for public transit.

Next, Nanyang plans to continue to promote bus travel and accelerate the construction of bus stations, bus lanes, bus harbors, and other infrastructure.
