E-commerce gives boost to agricultural industry

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2016-08-19

The marketing of agricultural products in Tongbai county, Nanyang, Henan province has been given a boost recently, thanks to the local government's promotion of e-commerce, which is part of the "Internet Plus" strategy.

The plan was unveiled by the central government, with the aim of driving forward economic growth through the integration of internet technology with businesses.

Tongbai has developed a vibrant market since Xinnongbao, an organization that provides e-commerce services, was established in July 2015. It provides a convenient marketing channel for agricultural products, bringing in welcome revenue for local farmers, and also allows local residents to shop online.

"I bought some big furniture through Xinnongbao," said Zhang, a local farmer.

Zhang went on to mention the convenience of purchasing online, and the good quality of the furniture.

In order to further promote e-commerce amongst farmers, Xinnongbao has established a center to conduct training, as well as provide technical guidance.

Statistics show that currently, over 130 e-commerce stations have been set up in Tongbai, covering a population of nearly 200,000, and over 30 brands of agricultural and related products have been registered online for marketing.
